AROMATHERAPY – The holistic healing perfected over thousands of years
EN | ไทย
When one hears ‘aromatherapy’ – it tends to brings images of spa, diffusers, and massage therapy into the mind. That’s not entirely true. Simplify the term – separate the word into 2 parts: aroma and therapy. Simply put, it is a practice carried out for over thousands of years, healing through aroma or scent, using natural essential oil.
Natural essential oil is highly concentrated, and is usually extracted from botanic sources like wood, leaf, roots of plants, or if you’re a little exotic, animals (but we don’t recommend).
Even though its name suggests ‘oil’, it actually isn’t – at least not the typical oils that you’d expect, like vegetable oil, rice bran oil, olive oil; essential oil has low grease property, distinct scents, and is easily evaporated if exposed to UV rays and heat. That explains why most essential oils are found in dark, translucent bottles.
As fantastic as essential oils are, each one has its unique therapeutic properties and use. According to studies, essential oil works fantastic physically and spiritually, and has branched out its use to cosmetics and daily lifestyle products.
Like we said, each oil has its own use – take rose essential oil or jasmine, these are very capable of reducing signs of ageing (I mean, who wouldn’t want that).
Or did you know that essential oil from clove and black pepper has the effect to loosen muscle and soothe sensitive skin (imagine applying this with massage oil after a tiring day – good grace!)
Beyond physical touch is all about breaking into mental and spiritual benefits. Essential oil can straight up influence your mix of emotion and mood through olfactory sense. Particular scents can give uplifting effects; some might freshen you up and make you feel invigorated.
Another way we can feel connected by aromatherapy is emphasizing the desired scent paired to emotionally driven memories. Here’s an example, revisiting a temple reminds you heavily of fresh jasmine blossoms. Or lavender brings back memories of the best spring break you’ve ever had. Quality memories and matching aroma tend to bring about the better side of emotions in us.
Taking on the aromatherapy approach to wellness might be of the, if not, the most natural ways you can do. For serious and non-serious health enthusiasts, you cannot deny that this is a restorative method for healing yourself outside and inside – and of course, it’s a low-exposure method to chemicals.
